The 2022 Mental Health Awareness Week takes Loneliness as a theme. Although many are returning to offices and interacting with more people in real life, there’s no doubt that working from home for some will have brought feelings of anxiety and changed how they feel about work which can’t easily be shifted.
It’s a responsibility now for all of us – colleagues, friends and employers to consider and take mental health issues seriously. The construction industry has some of the worst statistics (sadly still) for people experiencing serious mental health problems. One third of workers have taken time off for mental health issues in the past year, and each day 2 people in the construction industry take their own lives.
But apart from those top line shocking stats the benefits from improving mental health for all employees has many positive knock-on effects. By taking a positive approach to mental wellbeing in the workplace, your organisation can benefit from: more engaged and motivated staff, reduction in absence, increased productivity and staff retention, improved professional reputation and more satisfied customers.
